Identity Settings and Controls

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Custom fields let you store additional information on an identity beyond the standard Cloaked fields like username, password, email, or phone number.

They’re designed for anything extra you want to keep associated with an identity, such as notes, addresses, important dates, reference numbers, URLs, or other details specific to how you use that identity.

You can add as many custom fields as you’d like, and they’re fully customizable per identity.

What You Can Store in Custom Fields

Custom fields support multiple data types, including:

  • Custom text or notes

  • Addresses

  • Dates (for example, expiration dates or renewal reminders)

  • URLs or links

Fields can also be marked as sensitive, which hides them by default for extra privacy.

How to Add Custom Fields Manually

You can add custom fields from either the Cloaked mobile app or the desktop dashboard.

Steps to add a custom field

  1. Open the identity you want to update.

  2. Scroll to the Other Information section.

  3. Select Add new information.

  4. Choose the type of field you want to add (text, address, date, URL, etc.).

  5. Enter a label and the corresponding information.

    • Example: Label a date field as “Expiration” and select the appropriate date.

  6. Optional: Mark the field as Sensitive to hide it by default.

  7. Select Save.

The new custom field will now appear on the identity.

You can edit or delete any custom field at any time by selecting the menu next to the field.

Using Custom Fields During CSV Import

Custom fields can also be added when importing identities via CSV.

How CSV custom fields work

  1. Prepare your CSV file with columns for the data you want to import.

    • Examples: SSN, DOB, Expiration Date, Membership ID.

  2. During the import process, you’ll reach the Choose Labels step.

  3. Map each column to an appropriate field type, such as:

    • Custom Text

    • Date

    • Address

  4. You can map multiple columns to the same field type if needed.

  5. Cloaked will automatically add these fields to each imported identity with default labels based on the field type.

After the import, you can rename, edit, or mark any of the custom fields as sensitive directly within each identity.

Formatting tips for CSV imports

  • Dates should be formatted as YYYY-MM-DD

  • Clean, consistent formatting improves import accuracy

  • Cloaked will attempt to auto-correct formatting issues when possible, but clean data works best

When Custom Fields Are Most Useful

Custom fields are especially helpful when you want to:

  • Track account-specific notes or context

  • Store renewal, expiration, or verification dates

  • Save reference numbers or internal IDs

  • Keep extra details tied to an identity without cluttering core fields

They give you flexibility without compromising privacy or organization.
