Setting up Cloaked VPN

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What Is CloakedVPN?

CloakedVPN helps protect your internet activity by creating a secure connection between your device and the internet. When connected, your traffic is encrypted and routed through a secure server, which helps prevent networks, internet providers, or public Wi-Fi operators from seeing what you are doing online.

VPNs can also allow you to connect through servers in different locations. This can change the location websites see when you browse, which may affect the content or services available to you depending on where the server is located.

CloakedVPN can be turned on within the Cloaked app, and currently only available on mobile at this time.

What a VPN Does

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) encrypts your internet traffic and routes it through a secure server before connecting you to the internet.

This helps protect your browsing activity, especially when using public or shared Wi-Fi networks.

With CloakedVPN enabled, your connection is protected between your device and the VPN server, helping improve privacy while you browse.

When Using a VPN Is Most Helpful

Using a VPN can add an extra layer of protection in situations such as:

  • Connecting to public Wi-Fi networks at airports, cafés, or hotels

  • Traveling and using unfamiliar networks

  • Accessing sensitive accounts or services

  • Reducing how easily your browsing activity can be monitored by local networks

Because traffic is routed through a secure server, you may sometimes notice slightly slower internet speeds depending on your connection and the server location.

Some websites or services may also behave differently when a VPN is active because your connection appears to come from the selected server location.

How to Set Up CloakedVPN

CloakedVPN can be set up directly from the Cloaked mobile app and is available on both iOS and Android devices.

Before connecting, make sure your Cloaked app is updated to the latest version so you have access to the newest servers and features.

The VPN panel will appear on the Cloaked app home screen once the feature is available on your account.

Steps to connect to CloakedVPN

  1. Open the Cloaked app.

  2. Locate the VPN interface on the home screen.

  3. Select the gear icon in the top right corner of the VPN interface.

  4. Tap Connect to VPN.

By default, CloakedVPN connects you to the fastest available server. The recommended server is selected based on distance and network performance, which typically provides the best connection speed.

Once connected, the button will change from Connect to VPN to Disconnect from VPN.

How to Tell if You Are Connected to CloakedVPN

You can confirm your VPN connection both inside the app and through your device’s system indicators.

In the Cloaked app

The Connect to VPN button will change to Disconnect from VPN once the connection is active.

On iOS

You can see your VPN status in several places:

  • The VPN icon in your iPhone’s status bar

  • The Control Center

  • The VPN section in the main iOS Settings app

On Android

Android devices show the VPN connection with:

  • A key icon in the status bar

  • A persistent Cloaked notification showing connection status

  • The VPN section in Android’s main Settings app

How to Change the Server Location

CloakedVPN allows you to connect through servers in different countries if you want to change the location your internet traffic appears to come from.

Steps to choose a different location

  • Open the VPN interface in the Cloaked app.

  • Select the button showing the current server location.

  • Choose the country you want to connect through.

  • Select a city within that country.

  • After selecting a location, CloakedVPN will connect through that server.

Pro tip: Choosing a server closer to your physical location will usually provide faster speeds, while selecting a server farther away may change how websites determine your location.

Once connected, your internet traffic will be securely routed through the selected VPN server while you browse.
