Cloaked Text Guard is in the works! But, today Cloaked does not block or filter spam text messages on your personal phone. We hope to announce a solution to this problem soon, and will notify our customers when we have one.
We can and do screen spam calls with Call Guard.
What can I do about spam texts in the meantime?
While we don't have an automatic solution yet, here are some steps that you can take to help:
Use your phone's built-in tools:
Filter unknown senders:
iPhone: Go to Settings > Messages > turn on Screen Unknown Senders. This moves texts from people not in your contacts into a separate list.
Android: Open Google Messages > Settings > Spam protection > turn on Enable spam protection. Most Android devices will automatically detect and flag some spam texts.
Block individual numbers:
On any text you receive, you can tap the sender's number and select Block this Caller (iPhone) or Block & report spam (Android).
Report spam texts:
Forward the spam text to 7726 (spells "SPAM") — this reports it to your carrier (works on most US carriers)
You can also report spam texts to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Contact your carrier:
Most carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) offer their own spam filtering tools, either built-in or as add-on apps. Check with your carrier for options.
Proactively reduce future spam by using Cloaked
The best way to avoid spam texts is to stop giving out your personal information, including your real phone number, to reduce the chance of your real phone number ending up on a spam list.
Every time you sign up for a service, enter a sweepstakes, or fill out a form online, there's a chance that number gets sold, shared, or leaked. That's where Cloaked comes in with our Identities feature.
Part of Cloaked’s identities feature provides users with cloaked phone numbers that users can use and share instead of their real number whenever they need to provide the same to a third party (i.e., when you start shopping with a new company). Then, if that number starts getting spam, you can mute it, regenerate it, or delete it without affecting your personal number and keeping your number private.
Cloaked data removals help remove public listings of your personal information, which can also help reduce spam. You can also try our Automations feature to protect and remove your information on websites that fall outside traditional data broker removals.
